Program overview
Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering, simply put, is "using technology to help people stand up and walk again." You will learn medical basics like human anatomy and biomechanics, as well as engineering skills such as mechanical design, electronic control, and 3D printing. Core courses include prosthetic and orthotic design, rehabilitation engineering, materials science, and myoelectric control. It's suitable for students who are interested in both medicine and engineering, enjoy hands-on problem-solving, and have patience and empathy. China is developing rapidly in this field, with many universities (such as University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Beijing College of Social Administration, etc.) having specialized labs and partner hospitals, allowing students to directly participate in the fabrication and fitting of prosthetics for real cases, providing plenty of practical opportunities.
