Program overview
The Biomedical and Pharmaceutical program, simply put, uses knowledge from biology, chemistry, and engineering to develop drugs, vaccines, diagnostic reagents, and medical devices. You'll likely study core courses like molecular biology, cell culture, medicinal chemistry, and bioprocess engineering. There are plenty of lab sessions—such as gene cloning, protein purification, and fermenter operation—so hands-on skills are crucial. This program suits students who are passionate about life sciences, enjoy lab work, and want to turn research findings into real-world products. Many Chinese universities excel in this field, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhejiang University. They have close partnerships with major pharmaceutical and biotech companies, state-of-the-art lab equipment, and some even have GMP pilot plants, allowing you to get early exposure to industry standards.
