Program overview
Grain Engineering is simply about studying how to turn rice, wheat, corn, and soybeans into the rice, noodles, and cooking oil we eat, while ensuring they are safe, nutritious, and not wasted. You'll learn about the physical and chemical properties of grains, processing techniques (like rice milling, flour milling, and oil pressing), storage and preservation, quality testing, and how to use modern equipment for automated production. Core courses include Grain Chemistry, Grain Processing Technology, Grain Storage and Pest Control, Principles of Food Engineering, and Grain and Oil Quality Analysis. If you enjoy hands-on experiments, are curious about food production processes, or want to solve practical problems like "how to make grains last longer" or "how to improve rice yield," this major is a great fit. China is a major grain producer and consumer, and many universities (such as Henan University of Technology, Wuhan Polytechnic University, and Jiangnan University) have strong labs and industry partnerships in grain processing and storage, giving you access to real factory production lines.
