Program overview
In simple terms, this major is about how to safely and efficiently transport oil and natural gas from production sites to your doorstep. You'll study foundational courses like fluid mechanics and heat transfer, then dive into core topics such as pipeline transportation processes, tank design, oil and gas metering, and corrosion protection. The curriculum is rigorous but highly practical—for example, you'll learn how to design a pipeline stretching thousands of kilometers, build a large oil storage depot, and prevent pipeline leaks. It's ideal for students who are passionate about energy, engineering, and logistics, enjoy solving real-world problems, and don't mind occasional field visits. China has a natural advantage in this field: giants like PetroChina, Sinopec, and CNOOC build new pipelines and storage facilities every year, and universities such as China University of Petroleum and Southwest Petroleum University offer national-level experimental platforms and internship bases, giving you exposure to real projects.
