Program overview
Hydraulic structure engineering is the core direction of water conservancy engineering. Simply put, it studies how to safely and economically build large water-related projects such as dams, sluices, hydropower stations, canals, and ship locks. You will learn courses such as hydraulic structure design, structural mechanics, hydraulics, geotechnical mechanics, and reinforced concrete structures, as well as practical skills like finite element analysis and model testing. China has world-class practices in this field—for example, the Three Gorges Dam and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Many university professors have participated in real projects, and laboratories are equipped with large-scale hydraulic models and shaking tables. This major is suitable for students who enjoy hands-on work, are curious about large-scale engineering, and do not shy away from mathematics and mechanics. If you are interested in managing and utilizing water resources effectively, this major will equip you with substantial expertise.
