Program overview
Hydrology and Water Resources is a graduate program under Hydraulic Engineering. Simply put, it studies "where water comes from, where it goes, and how to use it wisely." You'll learn about the laws of the water cycle, how to predict floods, how to allocate water resources rationally, and how to protect the water environment. Core courses include Principles of Hydrology, Water Resources Planning and Management, Hydrological Modeling, Groundwater Hydrology, and Water Environment Chemistry. This program is ideal for students interested in math, physics, and computer modeling. If you care about environmental issues and enjoy solving real-world problems, this is a great fit. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—for example, Hohai University, Wuhan University, and Tsinghua University all have national key laboratories with extensive hands-on experience in hydrological monitoring, flood forecasting, and smart water management. Many professors have directly participated in management projects for major rivers like the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers.
