Program overview
Smart Sports Engineering is a relatively new interdisciplinary field—simply put, it's about "transforming sports with technology." You'll study sports human science and sports training theory, while also diving into engineering heavyweights like programming, sensors, and big data analytics. Core courses include Sports Biomechanics, Smart Sports Equipment Design, Sports Big Data, Introduction to Machine Learning, and Wearable Device Development. Chinese universities have a clear advantage in this field—many have built their own smart sports labs, such as those at Beijing Sport University and Shanghai University of Sport, giving you direct access to top-tier sports research projects in China. This major suits two types of people: those who love sports and want to learn some hardcore tech, and those who are passionate about the sports industry but don't want to stick to traditional coaching or teaching roles—they want to go the tech route.
