Program overview
Road, Bridge, and River-Crossing Engineering is essentially about studying how to build roads, bridges, and tunnels that are stable and safe. You'll learn how to design a highway, calculate the load-bearing capacity of a large bridge, and excavate a tunnel under a riverbed. Core courses include Structural Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Road Survey and Design, Bridge Engineering, Tunnel Engineering, and Subgrade and Pavement Engineering. A solid foundation in math and physics is needed, but don't worry—much of the learning happens through drawing and calculating. Chinese universities are particularly strong in this field because China has the world's most high-speed railways, longest bridges, and most complex mountain roads. Many schools offer real engineering project cases for you to practice. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on work, aren't afraid of construction sites, and are curious about large-scale engineering.
