Program overview
Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering is all about studying where water comes from, how it's used, and where it goes. Every time you turn on the tap for clean water, flush the toilet and wonder where the wastewater ends up, or see a city avoid flooding after heavy rain — this major is behind it all. Core courses include Hydraulics, Water Quality Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Pipeline Systems, Building Water Supply and Drainage Engineering, and Water Treatment Biology. You'll learn how to purify tap water, treat wastewater, and design water supply and drainage networks for neighborhoods and factories. This major is perfect for students who are interested in chemistry and physics, enjoy hands-on experiments, and care about environmental issues. Chinese universities have a clear advantage here: many schools have real experimental bases and school-enterprise cooperation projects, such as joint internship bases with local water companies and wastewater treatment plants, giving you direct exposure to real engineering. Plus, with China's rapid urban development, old pipeline renovations and new district construction require a large number of water supply and drainage professionals, so there are plenty of practical opportunities.
