Program overview
This major is essentially about how to make the indoor environment (temperature, humidity, air quality, lighting, etc.) both comfortable and energy-saving. You'll learn how to design and operate HVAC systems, water supply and drainage, gas supply, and electrical lighting. Core courses include engineering thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, building environment, HVAC, refrigeration technology, and building automation. If you enjoy hands-on work, don't mind physics and math, and care about environmental protection and energy conservation, this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have a unique strength in this field: many schools boast large HVAC labs and energy-saving testing platforms, such as Tsinghua University, Tongji University, and Harbin Institute of Technology, giving you access to real projects. Plus, China is actively promoting green buildings and smart cities, so much of what you learn is tied to the latest industry standards—very practical.
