Program overview
Civil,水利 and Transportation Engineering — in simple terms, it's the study of how to build stable houses, smooth roads, sturdy bridges, and manage water effectively. You might think it's "earthy," but it's actually super hardcore — from the dormitory you live in, to the overpass you walk on every day, to the tracks where high-speed trains zoom by, this major is behind it all. Core courses include: Mechanics (theoretical mechanics, material mechanics, structural mechanics), engineering drawing, surveying, concrete structures, steel structures, soil mechanics, hydraulics, transportation engineering, road engineering, etc. You'll learn how to use software to model and analyze structures, how to design a building that can withstand earthquakes, how to plan a road that doesn't get congested, or how to ensure rainwater drains smoothly. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field: many have large shaking tables, wind tunnel labs, bridge health monitoring systems, and even get to participate in world-class projects like the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Beijing Daxing International Airport. If you enjoy hands-on work, don't mind visiting construction sites, and are curious about "big projects," this major is a great fit.
