Program overview
Signal and Information Processing, simply put, is about making signals like sound, images, and video clearer, faster to transmit, and more accurately recognized. You will study courses such as Digital Signal Processing, Random Signal Processing, Communication Principles, Machine Learning, Image Processing, and Speech Recognition. Mathematics and programming are fundamental skills, but don't worry—much of the content is learned through experiments and projects, such as implementing a speech denoising algorithm using Python or MATLAB, or designing a simple radar target detection system. This major is especially suitable for students who enjoy hands-on work and are interested in communications or artificial intelligence. Chinese universities have strong capabilities in this field, such as Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. They have deep collaborations with companies like Huawei, ZTE, and DJI, and many of the devices in their labs are the latest 5G/6G test platforms. You will also get exposure to numerous real-world projects, such as millimeter-wave radar processing for autonomous driving and image enhancement algorithms for smartphones.
