Program overview
Remote Sensing Science and Technology, simply put, involves using satellites, drones, and other equipment to 'see' the Earth from a distance, then analyzing the data to understand ground conditions. You'll learn how to process satellite images, use computers to identify changes in farmland, forests, and cities, and get hands-on with cool technologies like GPS positioning and LiDAR. Core courses include Remote Sensing Principles, Digital Image Processing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Satellite Navigation and Positioning, and Photogrammetry. This major is great for students interested in geography, physics, and computer science—you don't need to be a coding guru, but you should be willing to work with code and images. China has unique strengths in this field, such as the BeiDou satellite system and the Gaofen series satellites. Many universities (like Wuhan University and Beijing Normal University) have national key labs where you can access real satellite data and even participate in international cooperation projects.
