Program overview
Surveying and Mapping Engineering might sound a bit abstract, but simply put, it's about learning how to precisely measure the shape, position, and changes of the Earth's surface, and then turning them into maps, 3D models, or digital information. You'll get to work with cool technologies like satellite navigation (e.g., BeiDou, GPS), drone aerial photography, LiDAR scanning, and remote sensing image processing. Core courses include Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Error Theory and Data Processing, etc. If you enjoy fieldwork, have an interest in geography and computers, or like solving practical problems with technology, this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field: the BeiDou satellite system, high-precision maps, and smart city projects are leading the world. Many universities have advanced labs and practice bases, such as Wuhan University, Tongji University, China University of Mining and Technology, etc., allowing you to get hands-on with the latest equipment.
