Program overview
Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, simply put, is about how to safely and efficiently extract oil and gas from underground and transport them to where they are needed. You will study core courses such as reservoir engineering (analyzing underground oil and gas reservoirs), drilling engineering (how to drill wells), production engineering (bringing oil to the surface), and oil and gas gathering and transportation (pipeline transport). Many schools also incorporate computer simulation and big data analysis to optimize extraction plans. This major is suitable for students who enjoy hands-on work, don't mind going to the field, and are passionate about the energy industry. China has strong practical advantages in this field. For example, universities like China University of Petroleum and Southwest Petroleum University have large experimental bases and cooperative projects with oil fields, allowing you to experience real production scenarios.
