Program overview
Human Geography and Urban-Rural Planning is, simply put, the study of "how people and places get along." You'll learn how to analyze a place's population, economy, and culture, and then design more reasonable city layouts, transportation networks, parks and green spaces, and even how to develop rural industries. Core courses include Human Geography, Economic Geography, Urban Geography, Principles of Urban and Rural Planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing Technology, and more. Chinese universities place a strong emphasis on practice in this field—many courses involve field research, such as analyzing renovation plans for an old city district or helping a village with tourism planning. If you enjoy observing cities, have a knack for maps and data, and hope your designs can truly improve people's lives, this major is a great fit for you.
