Program overview
Real Estate Development and Management, simply put, teaches you how to start from a vacant lot, go through land acquisition, design, financing, construction, sales or operations, and ultimately bring a real estate project to life. Core courses include Real Estate Economics, Urban Planning, Project Management, Real Estate Finance, Building Blueprint Reading and Construction, and Real Estate Appraisal. You don't need to become an architect or civil engineer, but you must understand their language and coordinate resources across teams. This major is perfect for those who are business-savvy and enjoy hands-on problem-solving—like when you see a building, you think, "How much is this land worth? How do we finance it? Who will buy it?" Many Chinese universities offer this program, such as Chongqing University and East China Normal University, often partnering closely with local real estate firms to take students on site visits, create mock development plans, or even participate in real projects. If you're interested in urban development, business logic, and interpersonal communication, this major will be a lot of fun.
