Program overview
Management Science and Engineering (MSE) is a graduate program under the discipline of management, but it is more like a discipline that "uses scientific methods to solve management problems." Simply put, it helps businesses make smarter decisions through mathematical modeling, data analysis, and computer technology. For example: how to optimize delivery routes to save time? How to predict next month's sales? How to design a supply chain system to reduce inventory costs? Core courses include Operations Research (teaching you to find optimal solutions using mathematics), Data Mining and Machine Learning (extracting patterns from data), Decision Analysis, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems and Big Data, etc. Many Chinese universities have distinctive strengths in this field, such as Tsinghua University's supply chain and logistics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University's engineering management, and Harbin Institute of Technology's big data analysis. The courses incorporate real-world cases from Chinese enterprises (like logistics scheduling for Double 11, or high-speed rail scheduling optimization), making them highly practical. This program is suitable for students with a solid math foundation, an interest in logical reasoning, and a passion for both business and technology. If you don't want to focus purely on technology or purely on management, this major serves as a bridge between the two.
