Program overview
Agricultural Economics and Management might sound a bit 'rustic,' but it's actually very down-to-earth—you learn how to use tools from economics and management to make agriculture more efficient, rural areas more prosperous, and farmers more profitable. Core courses include Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Product Market Analysis, Agricultural Policy, Rural Development Studies, Resource and Environmental Economics, Agricultural Enterprise Management, and Econometrics. You'll learn how to analyze price fluctuations in agricultural products, evaluate the effects of agricultural policies, design rural development projects, and even use big data to predict market trends. This major suits two types of people: those passionate about agriculture and rural areas who want to solve real-world problems, and those who enjoy economic analysis but don't want to focus solely on stocks and banks, preferring to do something more 'tangible.' Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field—for example, China Agricultural University and Nanjing Agricultural University have long-term partnerships with rural research bases, where students often go to the fields for case studies instead of just reading theory in classrooms. Additionally, many professors have ongoing projects with local governments or companies, and international students can participate, gaining hands-on experience.
