Program overview
The Education Leadership and Management program is essentially about learning how to run a school, an educational institution, or drive change within the education system. Unlike being a teacher who stands at the front of the classroom, this role works behind the scenes, thinking about how to make education more efficient, equitable, and innovative. Core courses include Education Management, Education Policy Analysis, Educational Leadership, Economics of Education, Research Methods in Education, School Financial Management, and Human Resource Management. You'll also learn how to develop strategic plans, handle crises, and motivate teams. This program is ideal for those passionate about education but who want to influence it from a management perspective—for example, if you've been a teacher and want to move into administration, or if your undergraduate background is in management or public policy and you want to combine it with education. Chinese universities offer unique features in this field. For instance, the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University and East China Normal University incorporate local education reform cases, such as changes in school management after the "double reduction" policy, and invite international school principals to share practical experiences. Many courses also provide internship opportunities in primary/secondary schools or education enterprises, allowing you to directly engage with real management scenarios.
