Program overview
The Mental Health Education program belongs to the broader field of education, but unlike purely theoretical education studies, it focuses more on the inner world of individuals. In simple terms, it teaches you how to understand people's emotions and behaviors, and how to help others (or yourself) cope with psychological issues such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Core courses include Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Psychological Counseling and Therapy, Psychological Measurement and Assessment, and School Mental Health Education. You will also learn practical communication skills, crisis intervention methods, and even how to design group counseling sessions. This program is especially suitable for students who are interested in people, enjoy listening, have empathy, and want to solve problems using scientific methods. A distinctive feature in Chinese higher education is that many universities integrate local culture into the curriculum—for example, incorporating traditional Chinese concepts of "self-cultivation and character building" into mental health education, or studying the unique academic pressures and family relationship issues faced by Chinese students. Additionally, many Chinese universities have psychological counseling centers where graduate students can intern and gain real-world case experience.
