Program overview
Sports Human Science, simply put, is the study of "how people move, move better, and move healthier." Unlike physical education, which teaches you how to coach others in playing ball or running, or clinical medicine, which treats illnesses, it sits in the middle—using basic disciplines like anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics to understand what happens inside the body during exercise. Core courses include: Sports Anatomy (understanding how muscles and bones work together), Sports Physiology (how heart rate and breathing are regulated), Sports Biomechanics (analyzing movement efficiency), Sports Nutrition (what to eat for faster recovery), and Basics of Sports Medicine (preventing and treating sports injuries). You'll also learn how to use equipment to measure fitness, perform body composition analysis, and design training plans. This major is perfect for students who are interested in both "the human body" and "sports"—for example, if you enjoy working out and playing ball, and also want to know why some people run fast while others get injured easily. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field: many sports universities (such as Beijing Sport University and Shanghai University of Sport) have advanced labs and partnerships with sports teams, giving students access to data collection and rehabilitation practices with national team athletes.
