Program overview
Politics, Economics, and Philosophy (PPE) is a classic interdisciplinary program that originated at the University of Oxford. Now, several top Chinese universities (such as Peking University, Renmin University of China, and Fudan University) also offer similar programs. This major is not simply a combination of three subjects; it teaches you to analyze the same problem from different disciplinary perspectives—for example, "Why do some countries develop faster than others?" You need to break it down from three angles: political institutions, economic incentives, and ethical concepts. Core courses include Principles of Political Science, Micro/Macroeconomics, Logic, Ethics, Public Policy Analysis, and International Relations. It is suitable for students who enjoy thinking about "big questions," are not satisfied with explanations from a single discipline, and are willing to take on challenges. PPE programs in Chinese universities often incorporate local cases (such as China's reform and opening-up economic policies and social governance models), allowing you to understand global theories while also seeing Chinese practice.
