Program overview
Financial Engineering, simply put, uses math, statistics, and programming to design financial products, manage risk, and make investment decisions. You don't need to be a math genius, but you should enjoy working with numbers and not mind coding. Core courses include: financial derivatives pricing, stochastic processes, time series analysis, quantitative investment strategies, risk management, and applications of C++/Python in finance. Chinese universities take a very practical approach in this field—for example, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, and Tsinghua University all have strong quantitative finance labs that collaborate closely with brokerages and fund companies, giving students access to real market data. This major suits students with strong logical thinking, a love for challenges, and a desire to make money using technical skills.
