Program overview
The International Relations program primarily studies the political, economic, and cultural interactions among states, international organizations, multinational corporations, and other actors. Simply put, it helps you understand "why the world works the way it does." Core courses include International Relations Theory, International Political Economy, Diplomacy, International Law, International Organizations, and Regional and Country Studies. You will learn to analyze conflict and cooperation, understand the logic behind foreign policy, and grasp the opportunities and challenges brought by globalization. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field: many offer specialized tracks such as China's Diplomacy, the Belt and Road Initiative, and Global Governance, and many professors have hands-on experience in embassies or international organizations. Classroom discussions often incorporate a Chinese perspective, such as "How does China participate in UN peacekeeping?" or "The impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on countries along the route." This program is ideal for students who are curious about international affairs, enjoy cross-cultural communication, and have strong analytical skills. If you want to learn both theory and the real world, this major will be a great fit.
