Program overview
Physical Electronics is a research direction under Electronic Science and Technology. Simply put, it studies how electrons and photons "move" and how to use them to create more advanced things. For example, the chips in your phone, fiber-optic communications, LiDAR, and even solar cells all rely on the fundamentals of this field. Core courses include quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, semiconductor physics, optoelectronics, and micro-nano fabrication techniques. It sounds a bit hardcore, but if you enjoy hands-on experiments and have an interest in both physics and circuits, it will be a great fit. Many Chinese universities have strong experimental platforms in this area, such as Tsinghua, Peking University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Zhejiang University. You'll get exposure to the entire process from material preparation to device testing, and many labs collaborate closely with industry, allowing you to experience real-world demands early on. This field is perfect for students who are not satisfied with just textbook theory and want to create tangible things.
