Program overview
Human Geography is a key branch of geography that studies how human activities shape space, and how space in turn influences society, economy, and culture. Simply put, it looks at how people and places interact. At the graduate level, you'll delve into areas like urban geography, economic geography, cultural geography, and population geography. Core courses include Theories and Methods in Human Geography, Spatial Analysis and GIS Application, and Regional Development and Planning. Chinese universities have a clear advantage in this field: you'll have plenty of real-world cases right around you—such as urban renewal in rapid urbanization, land consolidation under rural revitalization, and cross-border cooperation along the Belt and Road. These can all become your research material. Who is this program for? If you enjoy observing neighborhood changes in cities, are curious about cultural differences across places, are willing to do fieldwork (like interviewing villagers or mapping development zones), and don't mind working with data (e.g., using GIS for spatial analysis), then this major will be a great fit.
