Program overview
In simple terms, this major focuses on how to make children, adolescents, and women healthier. You will learn about growth and development patterns from fetal stage to adolescence, prevention of common diseases, nutritional guidance, intervention for psychological and behavioral issues, as well as women's health (e.g., pregnancy and postpartum health, menopause care). Core courses include child growth and development, child nutrition, maternal and child epidemiology, reproductive health, school health, and more. Who is this major suitable for? If you are interested in people, especially in helping children and women live healthier lives, enjoy data analysis, and are willing to conduct field research, this major will be a great fit. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field: for example, Peking University, Fudan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, etc., all have strong maternal and child health departments. Many professors directly participate in national maternal and child health policy-making, so you can access real large-scale cohort study data (such as the China Birth Cohort). In addition, China has a vast grassroots maternal and child health network, providing ample internship opportunities to see how public health is implemented on the ground.
