Program overview
Occupational and Environmental Health is a graduate program under Public Health and Preventive Medicine, focusing on two main areas: occupational health (industrial hygiene), which examines the effects of chemical, physical, and biological factors in the workplace on workers' health; and environmental health, which looks at how environmental factors such as air, water, and soil affect population health. Core courses include occupational epidemiology, industrial toxicology, environmental health science, occupational health standards, environmental monitoring, and risk assessment. You will also learn how to design health surveys, analyze exposure data, and develop protective measures. This program is ideal for students who are curious about how the environment affects the body, enjoy hands-on experiments and field investigations, and especially those with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, medicine, or engineering. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field—for example, Fudan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention have large occupational cohort studies and environmental pollution and health research bases, providing abundant field research and laboratory resources.
