Program overview
The Marine Resources and Environment program is, simply put, about studying what treasures the ocean holds (such as fish, oil, natural gas, minerals, and medicinal resources) and how to keep the ocean healthy. You'll take courses in marine biology, marine chemistry, marine geology, marine ecology, environmental monitoring and assessment, and more. Lab sessions involve going out to sea to collect samples, analyze seawater and sediments, and possibly use satellite remote sensing to observe ocean changes. This major is ideal for students who love nature, are curious about the ocean, don't get seasick, and enjoy hands-on experiments. China invests heavily in marine research—universities like Ocean University of China, Xiamen University, and Sun Yat-sen University have strong marine schools with advanced lab equipment and their own research vessels, giving you real access to the sea.
