Program overview
Marine biology is the science of all life forms in the ocean, from tiny plankton to giant whales, and their interactions with the environment. You'll study core courses like marine ecology, marine biodiversity, marine microbiology, marine biotechnology, and marine environmental science. This major is perfect for students who love the ocean and enjoy fieldwork and lab research—you might go on research vessels to collect samples at sea or analyze DNA in the lab. China has strong capabilities in marine biology, with institutions like Xiamen University, Ocean University of China, and the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which have advanced research vessels and coastal field bases, allowing you to directly experience the rich ecosystems of the Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea.
