Program overview
Resource and Environmental Science might sound academic, but it's actually very close to our daily lives—like whether the water you drink is clean, if the air is polluted, or if the soil can grow healthy food. Simply put, this major teaches you how to use natural resources (water, soil, air, and living organisms) wisely while protecting the environment. Core courses include Environmental Chemistry, Ecology, Introduction to Resource Science, Environmental Monitoring, Principles of Environmental Engineering, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You'll learn how to analyze pollutants, assess environmental quality in a region, and use remote sensing to track forest changes. There are plenty of lab sessions and field trips, making it ideal for hands-on learners and nature enthusiasts. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field. For example, China Agricultural University excels in agricultural resources and the environment, while Nanjing University and Beijing Normal University have strong programs in environmental science and ecological restoration. Many schools focus on real-world Chinese issues like desertification control, water pollution management, and heavy metal remediation, giving you practical skills.
