Program overview
The chemistry program lets you understand the world at the atomic and molecular level. You will study the structure, properties, and transformation laws of matter, as well as how to create new substances. Core courses include inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and instrumental analysis. These classes will take you through various experiments, such as synthesizing drugs, analyzing food components, and researching battery materials. Chinese universities have strong experimental facilities and research resources in chemistry—for example, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the University of Science and Technology of China. Many labs participate in cutting-edge international projects. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on work, are curious about material changes, and are willing to settle down for experiments. If you did well in high school chemistry or are interested in chemical phenomena in daily life (like why iron rusts or how drugs are synthesized), chemistry will be a great fit for you.
