Program overview
Analytical chemistry is a branch of chemistry that, simply put, studies "what is this and how much is there." You will learn how to use instruments (such as chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy) and chemical methods to detect components in samples. Core courses include: instrumental analysis, separation science, spectral analysis, electrochemical analysis, and more. If you enjoy hands-on experiments, are sensitive to data, and love the detective-like reasoning process, this major is a great fit for you. Chinese universities have strong capabilities in analytical chemistry—for example, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Xiamen University—with advanced laboratory equipment. Many research groups collaborate with pharmaceutical companies and testing institutions, giving you exposure to real-world projects.
