Program overview
Computer System Architecture is a research direction within the Computer Science and Technology major. Simply put, it studies how to best match hardware and software to make computers run faster, more stable, and more energy-efficient. You will learn core courses such as Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Parallel Computing, Storage Systems, and Network Architecture. There are plenty of hands-on opportunities, like designing a simple CPU with FPGA or optimizing a database's caching strategy. It's suitable for students who enjoy taking machines apart, are curious about underlying logic, and aren't satisfied with just "importing packages." Chinese universities have a strong engineering tradition in this field. For example, labs at Tsinghua University, the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National University of Defense Technology work on projects that directly align with international frontiers and collaborate closely with companies like Huawei and Alibaba, giving you access to real-world chip design or data center optimization cases.
