Program overview
Meteorology (graduate level) is the study of various physical and chemical processes and phenomena in the atmosphere. Simply put, it's about understanding why weather changes, how climate evolves, and how to predict extreme weather events. Core courses include atmospheric dynamics, numerical weather prediction, climatology, atmospheric detection and remote sensing, and meteorological statistical methods. If you're curious about natural phenomena, enjoy explaining complex systems with mathematical and physical models, or are interested in programming and data analysis, this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have unique advantages in meteorology: for example, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology and Peking University have national-level meteorological observation stations and supercomputers, allowing direct participation in real-case studies of typhoons and heavy rainfall; the China Meteorological Administration collaborates closely with universities, giving graduate students opportunities to work with operational forecasting systems.
