Program overview
Operations Research and Control Theory is a branch of mathematics that focuses on using mathematical methods to make optimal decisions. For example: how to plan logistics routes to save fuel? How to schedule shifts to minimize labor? How to control robot movements with precision? These problems are at the heart of operations research and control theory. Core courses include linear programming, nonlinear programming, dynamic programming, graph theory and network optimization, queuing theory, inventory theory, game theory, optimal control, system identification, and more. You will learn extensive modeling and algorithm design, requiring some programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C++, etc.). This major is suitable for students who love mathematics, have strong logical thinking, and are passionate about solving real-world problems. If you enjoy abstracting real problems into mathematical models and then designing algorithms to solve them, you will find it very rewarding. Chinese universities have strong strengths in this field, such as the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, etc. Many advisors have cooperative projects with companies, such as logistics optimization with JD.com and SF Express, communication resource scheduling with Huawei, and risk control models with banks.
