Program overview
Astronomy sounds romantic, but it's actually quite hardcore. In simple terms, it studies the physical properties, motion laws, and evolution of various celestial bodies (stars, planets, galaxies, black holes, etc.) in the universe. You'll learn basic courses like general astronomy, astrophysics, astrometry, celestial mechanics, and advanced topics such as observational astrophysics, stellar physics, galactic physics, cosmology. Core skills include data processing (Python, IDL), telescope observation operations, and physical model derivation. Suitable for students who are curious about the universe, enjoy physics and math, and can focus on data analysis. Chinese universities have many strengths in astronomy: for example, Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Peking University have strong astronomy departments, and many schools have close cooperation with the National Astronomical Observatories, Purple Mountain Observatory, and Shanghai Astronomical Observatory. Students have opportunities to use world-class facilities like FAST (China's Sky Eye).
