Program overview
Statistics is the discipline of collecting, organizing, analyzing data, and extracting useful information from it. Simply put, it teaches you how to "dig out" the truth from a pile of numbers. Core courses include probability theory, mathematical statistics, regression analysis, time series analysis, multivariate statistical analysis, and you'll also learn programming tools like R, Python, and SPSS. If you enjoy logical reasoning, have a knack for numbers, and are a bit curious, this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have many strengths in statistics—for example, Renmin University of China's economic statistics, East China Normal University's mathematical statistics, and Xiamen University's national economic accounting are all well-known. Many schools also collaborate with companies to provide real-world projects, letting you learn by doing.
