Program overview
Physics is the fundamental discipline that studies the basic laws of matter, energy, space, and time. Simply put, it's about understanding "why the world is the way it is." In your undergraduate studies, you'll learn classical topics like mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics, and atomic physics, then advance to the "Big Four" of theoretical physics: quantum mechanics, statistical physics, electrodynamics, and theoretical mechanics. There are also many lab courses, from basic measurements to modern physics experiments, where you'll operate instruments and analyze data—great for hands-on skills. Chinese universities have strong research teams in condensed matter physics, quantum information, optical engineering, etc. For example, the physics departments at University of Science and Technology of China, Peking University, and Tsinghua University are internationally renowned. If you're curious about natural phenomena, enjoy mathematical derivations and hands-on experiments, and aren't afraid of abstract concepts, this major is a great fit.
