Program overview
Systems Science and Engineering may sound a bit abstract, but it actually studies "systems" themselves—from transportation networks to ecosystems, from corporate management to artificial intelligence, any whole composed of multiple interacting parts is its research object. You will learn how to describe system behavior using mathematical models, stabilize systems with control theory, and optimize systems with methods. Core courses include Introduction to Systems Science, Operations Research, Control Theory, Complex Networks, and Introduction to Data Science. This major is especially suitable for students who enjoy interdisciplinary thinking and are not satisfied with a single disciplinary perspective. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field. For example, the School of Systems Science at Beijing Normal University is one of the earliest institutions for systems science teaching and research in China, and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology also features systems science, emphasizing the integration of theory and engineering applications.
