Program overview
Particle physics and nuclear physics, simply put, study 'what the world is made of' and 'how they interact.' You'll learn about fundamental particles like quarks, leptons, and gluons, as well as the structure, decay, and reactions of atomic nuclei. Core courses include quantum field theory, introduction to particle physics, nuclear physics experimental methods, and high-energy physics data analysis. This major requires a strong foundation in mathematics and physics, and is suitable for students who are curious about the origin of the universe and the nature of matter, and who are not afraid of complex formulas and abstract concepts. China has several highlights in this field: the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPC) is a world-leading τ-charm physics experimental facility, the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment achieved significant results, and the Jinping Underground Laboratory (the deepest in the world) is used for dark matter detection. If you come to China for graduate studies, you may have the opportunity to participate in data analysis or detector development for these large scientific facilities, engaging with cutting-edge international topics.
