Program overview
Radio physics might sound a bit advanced, but it's actually all around you—mobile signals, Wi-Fi, satellite navigation, and radar detection all rely on this field. Simply put, it studies how electromagnetic waves are generated, transmitted, and received, and how they can be used to transmit information or sense the world. Core courses include electromagnetic field theory, microwave technology, antenna design, RF circuits, wave propagation, and some signal processing and computational electromagnetics. If you enjoy physics but don't want to stay purely theoretical—if you like hands-on experiments, building circuits, and debugging equipment—this major is a great fit. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this area. For example, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Xidian University, Peking University, and Fudan University all have strong research teams and labs in 5G/6G communications, millimeter waves, and terahertz technology. Many research groups work closely with companies, so you'll get to tackle real engineering problems.
