Program overview
Special Energy Technology and Engineering, simply put, is the study of "how to make things explode or propel." Its core involves special energetic materials like explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics, along with their applications and safe storage. You'll take courses in physical chemistry, combustion science, explosive theory, propellant technology, and pyrotechnic device design. There are plenty of lab sessions—testing detonation velocity, combustion temperature, or even designing small rocket engines. China has a strong military-industrial background in this field, with universities like Beijing Institute of Technology, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and North University of China boasting deep expertise, advanced lab equipment, and close ties to the defense industry. This major suits students who are hands-on, interested in chemistry and mechanics, and don't mind working with hazardous materials.
