Program overview
Weapon Launch Engineering, simply put, is about studying how to safely and accurately launch projectiles, missiles, rockets, and other weapons from their launch devices. You'll learn core courses such as launch dynamics, ballistics, artillery and automatic weapon design, and rocket/missile launch technology. This major requires a strong foundation in physics and mathematics, especially mechanics and fluid dynamics, making it ideal for students who enjoy hands-on experiments and have an interest in mechanical and electronic systems. China has strong capabilities in this field, with universities like Beijing Institute of Technology and Nanjing University of Science and Technology having dedicated labs and test ranges where students can participate in real launch test projects. The curriculum includes both theoretical calculations and extensive practical sessions, such as simulating ballistic trajectories on computers or observing live-fire launches at shooting ranges.
