Program overview
Weapon Systems and Engineering, simply put, is an engineering major that studies how to build, use, and improve "weapons." You may learn the design principles of systems like artillery, missiles, armored vehicles, and ammunition, as well as topics such as automatic control, materials science, and computer simulation. Core courses include Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Design Fundamentals, Automatic Control Principles, Ammunition Engineering, and Weapon System Design. This major requires a strong foundation in math and physics, making it suitable for students who enjoy hands-on work and are interested in military technology or large mechanical systems. China has strong capabilities in this field—for example, Beijing Institute of Technology and Nanjing University of Science and Technology have a long history in ordnance disciplines, advanced laboratory equipment, and close cooperation with domestic defense enterprises, offering exposure to many real-world projects.
