Program overview
Rehabilitation Physical Therapy is a science major under the category of medical technology. Its core is to help people with motor dysfunction caused by injury, surgery, or chronic diseases restore physical function. Simply put, it uses manual therapy, exercise training, and physical agents (such as electricity, heat, cold, light) to help patients stand up, walk, and move again. You will learn basic courses like human anatomy, exercise physiology, and neuroscience, then move on to core courses: physical therapy assessment, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, and orthopedic rehabilitation. Many Chinese universities, such as Shanghai University of Sport, Sichuan University, and Kunming Medical University, have strong rehabilitation physical therapy programs with close hospital partnerships, offering students opportunities to intern in affiliated hospitals or cooperative rehabilitation centers and work with real cases. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on work, have patience, and communicate well. You're not just "treating diseases" but helping people rebuild confidence in life. If you're interested in medicine but don't want to spend all your time in a lab or operating room, rehabilitation physical therapy is a down-to-earth choice.
