Program overview
Biomedical Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that, simply put, uses data science methods to solve biomedical problems. You'll learn both the fundamentals of biomedicine (like human physiology, pathology, and drug mechanisms) and core data science skills (such as Python/R programming, machine learning, database management, and statistical modeling). Core courses include Bioinformatics, Medical Statistics, Genomic Data Analysis, Drug Discovery and Design, Healthcare Big Data, and Applications of Deep Learning in Medicine. This major is perfect for students who are passionate about life sciences and enjoy working with data and coding. Many top Chinese universities (e.g., Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology) have strong programs in this field, partnering with leading hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to give you hands-on experience with real clinical data and drug development projects. Plus, China's massive healthcare data volume and policies promoting data openness mean you'll gain plenty of practical experience.
