Program overview
Medical laboratory technology, simply put, teaches you how to use various instruments and reagents to uncover clues of diseases from blood, body fluids, and tissues. You'll operate microscopes, biochemical analyzers, and PCR machines in the lab, learning to detect viruses, bacteria, tumor markers, genetic genes, and more. Core courses include Fundamentals of Clinical Laboratory Testing, Clinical Biochemistry Testing, Immunology Testing, Microbiology Testing, Hematology Testing, and Molecular Diagnostics. This major is perfect for students who enjoy hands-on work, are detail-oriented and patient, and are curious about the principles behind medical testing. Many Chinese universities, such as Southern Medical University and Chongqing Medical University, have close partnerships with large hospital laboratories and third-party medical testing centers, giving students opportunities to practice in real labs and work with the latest automated testing equipment.
