Program overview
Grassland Science might sound a bit niche, but it's actually closely tied to our lives, the environment, and even the beef and milk on our tables. Simply put, this major studies "grass"—including natural pasture grasses, urban lawns, sports turf, and how to make them grow better and more valuable. Core courses include Grassland Ecology, Forage Breeding, Turf Management, Grassland Protection, and you'll also learn practical tools like remote sensing and soil science. If you enjoy the outdoors, are interested in plants and ecology, or want to make a real difference for the environment, this major is a great fit. China has unique advantages in grassland science—for example, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, and Xinjiang have vast grasslands, and many universities (such as China Agricultural University, Lanzhou University, and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University) have strong research teams and field stations where you can experience real grassland ecosystems.
